Osram continues to invest in Eichstätt

In the presence of Managing Director Dr. Klaus Patzak and Mayor Andreas Steppberger, Osram today celebrated the ground-breaking ceremony for a new halogen production line in Eichstätt. The production line, which will produce highly efficient burners for halogen lamps, is to be put into operation next summer. The total investment for the new plant is in excess of 10 million euros. "Eichstätt is Osram's leading production site for halogen lamps. The lamps that are produced here are in great demand all over the world. With the new production line we are continuing to rely on quality Made in Germany," explains Klaus Patzak.

Osram had already commissioned a new production line for halogen burners in July. The amount invested at this time was of a similar order. In addition to energy-efficient LED lamps and compact fluorescent lamps, halogen lamps are an important alternative to the traditional incandescent bulb that was finally taken off the shelves in the EU in September 2012. "Halogen lamps produce the same light as conventional incandescent bulbs and their lifetime is twice as long. They are also infinitely dimmable and light up immediately after being switched on," says factory manager Markus Siegner, explaining the advantages of halogen technology. At the end of their service life, halogen bulbs can be disposed of unhesitatingly in the household waste.

The Eichstätt production site has been in operation since 1962. Over the past 50 years, production has developed from simple manual assembly, via partially automated production lines, to highly automated, computer-controlled high-performance production lines. Each year, around 250 million lamps including halogen lamps, halogen lamps for automotive lighting and xenon short-arc lamps for use in cinemas are manufactured in Eichstätt. Osram lamps produced in Eichstätt are today used in almost every second cinema throughout the world. In the eighties Osram won Oscars for both film set and cinema lighting. Its expertise in the field of halogen lamps makes the Eichstätt plant Osram's most important production site world-wide in this area.
