CSEM is a Swiss technology innovation center that develops and transfers advanced technologies with high societal impact to industry. It works with leading partners and academia in precision manufacturing, digitalization, and sustainable energy. It has over 600 employees and six sites in Switzerland.
CSEM has been active in wearable technologies for decades, with its Medtech/Digital Health activities certified according to ISO 13485 since June 2014. CSEM possesses extensive competencies in developing low-power wireless sensors for human-monitoring applications, including on-body sensor electronics, signal processing, advanced feature extraction at the sensor level or in the cloud, big data analysis, and machine learning. With over 20 years of experience, CSEM supports clients in integrating photoplethysmography (PPG) optical sensors and inertial motion units into their devices to monitor various physiological parameters.

These capabilities are valuable for sports, health, and medical applications. CSEM offers a comprehensive approach, from designing sensors that capture high-quality signals to develop algorithms that estimate physiological parameters.
CSEM supports customers throughout the design, integration, and manufacturing process of theír devices, including:
- Choosing the best optical and electronic components
- Providing electronic PPG reference design
- Offering guidance and guidelines for optomechanical design
- Developing PPG analogue front end (AFE) drivers
- Deploying existing human vital signs algorithm portfolio
- Support during certification and clinical validation
- Implementing other sensors and sensing electronics, such as ECG, impedance, temperature, etc.
