Osram presents lighting innovations at Light + Building

Omnipoint

Lighting innovations from Osram lead the way into the future. Intelligent street lights that find and assign parking places, infrared lighting solutions that unlock smartphones via iris scan or transmitting units integrated into luminaires that navigate people through buildings are just a few of the new solutions that Osram will present at this year’s Light + Building show starting on March 13 in Frankfurt. A focus at the booth will be on intelligent and efficient lighting solutions for cities and buildings, but also present pioneering innovations in other areas. “Our products have set major trends in the lighting market for more than 100 years – and they will also do so at Light + Building 2016”, said Olaf Berlien, Chief Executive Officer of OSRAM Licht AG.

Invisible light for biometric identification and fitness tracking
Osram Opto Semiconductors will demonstrate what infrared light can do. Thanks to optimal illumination, an infrared sensor in a smartphone can scan the iris of the eye and unlock the mobile device for the registered user. This method is currently considered one of the most secure biometric access control processes – and Osram is the only company that offers these infrared transmitters. This type of application will be refined – for such purposes as creating a further link between the user and device, the human-machine interface. When technology is capable of not only identifying the iris, but can also follow its movement, users will be able to activate icons and scroll image content on notebooks and smartphones via eye contact. In addition, visitors will be able to learn more about infrared solutions for autonomous driving, gesture recognition and fitness tracking. Also on display at Osram Opto Semiconductors’ booth in hall 6.2 will be many new LED components for general lighting applications.

Intelligent luminaires and light management systems for the city of the future
For street lighting applications, Osram Lighting Solutions will present the latest generation of its Street Light Control System, which wirelessly connects luminaires in a network on the basis of the open internet standard IPv6. The system will initially be installed in Osram's Streetlight 10 and 20 as well as DL 50 models. Through the integration of additional sensors, the streetlights provide not only efficient illumination, but also identify and report open parking places, facilitating efficient parking space management and other services. Ready for series production is the flexible luminaire Omnipoint, which was named the most innovative product at the 2015 Lightfair in New York. The 61 LEDs in the dome-shaped luminaire are individually controllable via an app for the flexible illumination of individual areas for example in shops or museums. For stadium lighting, Osram will present the 20 Maxi LED Floodlight with an output of 100,000 lumens. It features flicker-free lighting for TV transmissions in HD quality and super slow motion. Also shown will be efficient lighting and control solutions for industrial and office applications.

Digital lighting solutions for intelligent buildings
The Digital Systems division will present the Prevaled Core Style light engine for vivid colors in shop lighting. With its specially developed light spectrum, it features high feeling of contrast index of 138, a color rendering index of 88 and luminous flux of 3,000 lumens. For light designers, architects and luminaire manufacturers, the new Ultraflat system delivers maximum design flexibility. Its profile of only eleven millimeters holds an Optotronic LED driver as well as presence and daylight sensors. The driver is flexibly programmable with LEDSet, DALI or wireless technology. Osram will also demonstrate its new Luxeye light management system, which can be installed via plug-and-play and configures itself automatically. With the Luxeye app, up to 20 luminaires can be controlled via smartphone.

OLED rear light and lighting solutions for architecture and entertainment
In the area of specialty lighting applications, Osram will present a LED / OLED car rear light that functions as a brake light, turn indicator, reverse light and rearlight. A few steps away, visitors will see the new luminaires made by the Osram subsidiary Clay Paky for entertainment and architectural applications. The luminaires of this "Light is Glamour" theme will also illuminate the Osram booth itself. To highlight architectural features, the stationary Spherilight spotlight and the Spheriscan, a movable light with an integrated mirror, create ideal solutions for special lighting effects. The LED-based Odeon Flood and Odeon Graze luminaires are especially well-suited for lighting historical buildings and facades. They deliver excellent color mixing and feature precise DMX/RDM dimming.

Modern lamps in the style of 1906
The Osram brand was born in 1906. To commemorate the long tradition of Osram lamps, the division that will operate as Ledvance in the future will present its edition 1906 of modern luminaires and appropriate lamps in the design of the early 20th century. They are available with LED filament or halogen technology. Other highlights will be the LED lamps of the Duo Click Dim and Active & Relax product lines. By hitting the light switch twice, Duo Click Dim lights reduce their output to 30 percent, while Active & Relax can be switched from warm white to cool white. In the Lightify Home area, innovations will include the Lightify Plug, an app-switchable power plug, and the Lightify Switch, an individually configurable mobile switch for Lightify products. Also being shown will be trade and retail luminaires for popular applications with a luminous efficacy of up to 120 lumens per watt and a rated lifetime of up to 50,000 hours.

Building navigation via lamps and luminaires
As a premiere Osram will present intelligent transmission units for location-based services called Einstone, which can be seamlessly integrated into lighting technology. Since the units are built into the existing lighting infrastructure and use their power supply, batteries are no longer needed. They operate with Bluetooth technology and make a wide range of applications possible. The booth will for example feature a replica of a museum area where visitors receive explanations in two languages via a smartphone app when they approach an exhibit. Also being presented will be a navigation system for the blind which will make it easier for visually impaired people to find their way in new environments. In addition to building navigation, Einstone is ideally suited for special applications in department stores: As soon as someone approaches the store, he or she can get information about the store's current specials via a smartphone app.

The Osram Star Luminale Project at the entrance to Messe Frankfurt
Parallel to the Light & Building show, the Luminale festival of light will take place in Frankfurt. Together with Munich-based light artist Sigi Bußinger, Osram will present the Project Osram Star. Located in Friedrich Ebert Park near the entrance to Messe Frankfurt, Osram Star illuminates the evolution of a star. The installation will use Oslon Square and Oslon SSL high-power LEDs, and Optronic driver and a control system from Ecue. With this lighting installation Osram sets a highlight at this year’s luminale

Osram will have locations in the Festhalle (Hall 2.0) and in Hall 6.2 at this year’s Light + Building.
