Osram opens application programming interface for Lightify

Creative developers can now create their own apps for Osram’s Lightify Home system. Lightify enables people to control their lights at home with their smartphones or tablets – from the color temperature and brightness to RGB lamps with various color rendering. Osram is now offering an open application programming interface (REST API) for Lightify that can be used to develop Lightify apps both for desktops and mobile devices. As a result, home lighting can become even more customized to meet an individual’s own needs and wishes or can be combined with other applications. Through the opening of the interface, Lightify can also be integrated into home automation applications. “Thanks to its link to the cloud, the interface offers virtually unlimited ways to design your lighting at home – regardless of where you happen to be at the time. As a result, creative people with programming knowledge can create their own light-management,” says Timon Rupp, who is in charge of Lightify at Osram.

Osram also offers a special instruction guide that leads users through the most important programming steps. The information includes example applications and codes. With this assistance, every user with the necessary programming knowledge can become creative: from special lighting scenes for children’s birthday parties or Christmas celebrations to innovative network possibilities in which light operates in unison with thermostats or other household devices. The open application programming interface is another component for the future of holistic smart home systems.

The open interface for Lightify is available on different regional links. They are:
