A Cooperation Fit for Film
Osram and Arri develop the 9 kW daylight fixture
An especially high quantity of light in compact spaces is the requirement of customers from the studio and stage lighting sector, because only when film sets are optimally illuminated and when lighting does not impair the set with bulky dimensions are later blockbusters possible. For Arri’s new film set luminaire Osram has now developed a light source that is able to satisfy these demands. The M90/60 luminaire from the award-winning Arri M series enables a new performance class of 9,000 watts that until now did not exist with film set luminaires. The HMI 9000W/SE metal halide lamp from Osram ensures high-output light and also celebrates its premiere in this application. Its size corresponds to the special performance class and is characterised by high luminous flux with compact dimensions.
The revolutionary Arri M90/60 closes the gap between the 1,200 and 18,000 watts luminaires of the Max series. As with all lampheads from this product family, the new luminaire also features patented reflector technology and is characterised by extreme brightness. Light output is close to that of a 12K, while size and weight are nearer to a 6K. This is a crucial consideration for productions travelling to distant locations, as weight and space on trucks can be extremely limited. The M90/60 is focusable without lenses and achieves highly homogeneous illumination and crystal-clear, precise shadowing.
HMI film set lamp with new intermediate dimensions
For the first time the film set luminaire uses the HMI 9000W/SE from Osram, a high-output, single ended metal halide lamp with outer bulb. Osram with this 9kW variant is the first manufacturer worldwide to bring an intermediate size to the market, positioned between the standard 6kW and 12kW products. HMI 9000W/SE features very compact dimensions – the M90/60 thus benefits from a very compact housing – so that it can be used as a 6kW lamp and yet still has an exceedingly high luminous flux of almost 900,000 lumens. Its 6,000K colour temperature achieves the requisite highly natural impression of colours needed on film sets, and colour temperature remains stable over the complete service life so that the lamp need not be prematurely replaced. Manufactured with tried-and-true Extreme Seal technology, the HMI 9000W/SE is resistant to external influences such as knocks, vibration and temperature deviations, and as with all Osram products for film set illumination, the new lamp also enables hot re-ignition.
