Peter Laier appointed member of the managing board at Osram

Responsibility for general illumination and Chief Technology Officer

The supervisory board of OSRAM AG, in Munich, has appointed Dr. Peter Laier (44) to the managing board of Germany’s largest lighting manufacturer and listing candidate. Laier will take responsibility of the general illumination business and, in his capacity as Chief Technology Officer of Osram, will head Corporate Research and Development as well as Corporate Supply Chain Management and Quality and Technology. Laier is considered a pioneer in electronics and sensors production at Continental. He has international experience as a general manager, is cool headed, with a high degree of technical understanding and a good sense for change scenarios. "The lighting industry is undergoing fundamental technological change. Therefore, the supervisory board was especially interested in appointing a versatile manager and highly experienced engineer to Osram's managing board," said Prof. Siegfried Russwurm, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of OSRAM AG. Laier will assume his new responsibilities in spring 2013.

Born in Fulda in 1968, Laier studied mechanical engineering with a concentration on design and production technology. In 1996, he started his professional career at the Fraunhofer Institute in Stuttgart. Over the past 12 years, Laier has successfully worked in multiple development and management functions at Continental AG in Hannover. This included electronics, sensors up to different brake systems. During this time, he worked for four years in Asia, where he was based in Japan. Laier has been a member of Chassis & Safety division's Management Board since 2008. From 2008 to 2011, he was in charge of the Chassis Components division. He has been head of the Hydraulic Brake Systems division since August 2011, where he was responsible for more than 12,000 employees and several billion euros in sales. "I'm delighted to welcome a colleague to the board who is an expert in technology, production and management. His experience in key markets in Asia, which are also important for Osram, will be of great benefit," said Osram CEO Wolfgang Dehen.
