Opto-semiconductor products and their applications – from general lighting to reliable identification

At Light + Building Osram Opto Semiconductors is showcasing its innovations at two booths

This year at Light + Building Osram Opto Semiconductors is presenting its products and applications at two booths instead of one. In the Festhalle (Hall 2.0/booth B50) the company is showcasing new applications for various infrared light emitting diodes, such as eye tracking, iris scanning and gesture recognition, in keeping with the slogan “Welcome to Smart City”. And at booth C04 in Hall 6.2 the focus is on LED components for general lighting.

Invisible light is opening up numerous connected and digital applications. Some are already part of our everyday lives, and others could be very soon. Osram Opto Semiconductors is presenting virtually the entire bandwidth of infrared lighting applications – from automotive systems and motion detection to fitness tracking – in the Festhalle at Light + Building 2016 with the aid of a 70-inch touchscreen.

Biometric applications cover a wide range, including fitness tracking, driver monitoring and biometric identification. Iris pattern matching is currently one of the most secure biometric methods of access control – Osram is the world’s only supplier of infrared emitters that have been specifically designed for iris scanners in smartphones and similar devices. The Oslux SFH 4780S combines the right wavelength, the necessary optical output and the appropriate emission characteristics to achieve high-contrast images of the eye that can be captured by a compact system with low power consumption.

Environment sensors can cover not only the established application of smoke detection but also future applications such as air and light quality measurement. And of course there are the mobile interactive applications such as presence detection, autonomous driving and gesture recognition which can also be implemented with infrared light emitting diodes.

At booth C04 in Hall 6.2 the focus is on LEDs for general lighting. Over the past ten months Osram has added around 100 new versions to its Duris, Oslon and Soleriq families. As a result, customers have a choice of numerous products in different colors and output classes – from low and mid-power to high and ultra-high power – in new packages and in existing tried and tested packages. This extensive portfolio can be viewed in Frankfurt from March 13 to 18, 2016.
