Advanced sensing for automotive mobility

We engineer high‑precision, robust, and functionally safe sensor solutions for modern vehicle architectures — from electrification and automated driving to chassis control and secure human–vehicle interaction. Our magnetic and capacitive sensor portfolios deliver accuracy, stray‑field immunity, and automotive‑grade quality that OEMs and Tier‑1s trust.

Why ams OSRAM for automotive

Our sensors are developed for real vehicle environments, where temperature extremes, electromagnetic interference, and functional safety requirements must be addressed at system level.

  • Automotive qualification: AEC-Q100; functional safety concepts up to ASIL-D (ISO 26262).

  • Defined performance envelopes: angle resolutions down to 12–14 bit, stray-field immunity specified in mT, and operating temperature ranges up to –40 °C to +150 °C (device-dependent).

  • Interface flexibility: SPI (Serial Peripheral Interface), SENT (Single Edge Nibble Transmission), PSI5 (Peripheral Sensor Interface 5), PWM, I²C, ABI, UVW, SIN/COS.

  • Longevity support: product availability programs extending to 2035.

Magnetic position sensing – angle and motion control

Magnetic position sensing enables contactless angle and linear position measurement for powertrain, chassis, and pedal systems. These devices are optimized for immunity to external magnetic fields and precise signal integrity over temperature.

  • AS5116 – Fast angle sensor with SIN/COS outputs; specified stray-field immunity for electrically noisy environments.
  • AS5x47 family – Magnetic angle sensors with DAEC (Dynamic Angle Error Correction) and DFS (Dynamic Field Suppression); interfaces include SPI, ABI, UVW, and PWM; functional safety concept up to ASIL-D.
  • AS5171x – SIP (Single Inline Package) sensors with analog or SENT/PWM outputs, targeting ride-height and pedal position measurement.
  • AS5172x – Sensors with PSI5 interface, offering 12- or 14-bit resolution for chassis and pedal applications.
  • AS5173 (NEW) – High-resolution magnetic position sensor with PSI5 interface, designed for safety-relevant motion sensing.

Capacitive sensing – touchless, wear‑free detection

Capacitive sensing is suited for human-machine interfaces and presence detection, where direct mechanical contact is undesirable. These solutions enable fine & reliable capacitance measurement and support functional safety monitoring.

  • AS8579 – Capacitive controller with 10 sensing lines, active shielding, and functional safety compliance up to ASIL-B; supports HOD (Hands-On Detection) and occupant presence detection.
  • AS8580 – High-resolution capacitive sensor with 1.9 fF sensitivity and 15-bit output resolution; includes low-power sleep modes for fluid-level and presence detection.

Inductive position sensing – magnet-free stable performance in harsh setups

Inductive position sensing is used where large air gaps, contamination, or high temperatures limit magnetic or optical approaches. The method supports stable measurements over wide mechanical tolerances and is totally raw-earth magnet free.

  • AS5715 family – Inductive position sensors specified for high-temperature operation (up to +150 °C) and remote sensing layouts.
