Open System Protocol (OSP) - Ecosystem
OSP ecosystem allows the collaboration of various partners in an open network enabling innovative dynamic lighting applications and beyond.
OSP is Open for Everybody
ams OSRAM has specified OSP (Open System Protocol) and made it available for everybody.
The purpose of having OSP available for everybody is allowing the system to grow – grow by the number of users, by the functionality of the devices and the variety of applications. Anybody can use OSP. OSP is free of any license.
OSP Network and Eco-System
OSP can be implemented on µCs or on devices communicating to this µC. The devices can offer application specific functions. These application specific functions are designed by and belong to the device manufacturer. OSP does not limit to create intellectual property. OSP just defines the communication.
The µC uses OSP to steer these devices and their application specific functions. A device can be anything like an LED, but as well a driver or a sensor or an actuator or another µC.
The OSP Eco-System exists physically out of µC and devices. The OSP Network includes all parties being involved to create this eco-system: µC manufacturers, device manufacturers, integrators, tool manufacturers, tier 1s, OEMs.
OSP Usage
We offer following sources to get acquainted with OSP:
- Download the specification
- Download a free software from GitHub for Arduino
- Contact us via ams OSRAM sales to get free reference software for automotive µCs.
Browse through our homepage to get information on the first two devices from ams OSRAMincluding OSP:
- OSIRE® E3731i, an intelligent RGB LED
- SAID AS1163, a stand-alone intelligent driver including OSP, 9 output drivers and a I2C interface.
