ams OSRAM Showcases Blue Laser Innovations at Laser World of Photonics China 2026

Shanghai, China, March 18, 2026 — ams OSRAM (SIX: AMS), a global leader in innovative light and sensor solutions today announced at Laser World of Photonics China (LWPC) 2026 a portfolio of laser products powered by its latest blue multi-mode laser chips. The company also presented, for the first time, its first high-power laser featuring multi-chip integration in a single package with single-emitter output. These innovations underscore ams OSRAM’s ongoing technological advances in the field of blue laser technology.

Blue laser technology is rapidly becoming the light source of choice for industrial precision machining and high-end display applications, thanks to its superior efficiency, wavelength characteristics, and beam quality. ams OSRAM is a global leader in digital photonics, powered by a comprehensive portfolio of semiconductor emitter and sensing technologies. The company has achieved precise positioning across multiple key technology nodes and proactively invested in pioneering fields like laser fusion. From micron-level precision in material engraving to immersive experiences in visual projection, ams OSRAM’s latest technological achievements provide innovative solutions to meet these demands.

New Blue Laser Products and Innovative Solutions for Industrial Processing and Projection
At this year’s LWPC, ams OSRAM highlighted two blue laser products: the new multi-mode laser PLPT9 450MD_E and its first high-power, multi-chip packaged, single-source integrated laser, Vegalas™ Power PLPM7_455QA. The two products are designed for industrial processing and projection applications respectively.

The PLPT9 450MD_E represents ams OSRAM’s next-generation high-power blue laser diode designed for the precision machining market. It features a robust TO90 package, covers a wavelength range of 434–470 nm, and supports precise 2 nm wavelength binning. The product achieves wall-plug efficiency of up to approximately 48% (depending on wavelength) and delivers optical output power of up to 7 W.

Compared with the previous generation, the component achieves up to a 25% increase in optical output power and about a 15% gain in efficiency. The increased brightness and power density ensure cleaner processing, deeper marking, and more stable performance in cutting, marking, engraving, and welding tasks, making it a highly cost-effective solution for industrial applications.

For lighting, projection, and entertainment applications, the PLPT9 450MD_E combines high brightness with phosphor conversion technology to support a wider color gamut.  Furthermore, its system-level cost advantages derived from high power, efficiency, and wavelength accuracy enable more compact and economical laser systems. These advantages make the component ideal for demanding optical system designs.

The Vegalas™ Power PLPM7_455QA laser is the first high-power, multi-chip packaged, single-source integrated laser in the ams OSRAM Vegalas™ Power portfolio of high-power laser diodes.  The product, announced in 2025, makes its first offline appearance at this exhibition. By integrating multiple lasers into a single module, the product delivers high-power output from a single source. Within short pulse cycles, it achieves up to 42 W of optical power, with wall-plug efficiency (WPE) of approximately 45%. Targeting projection display applications (home theater, automotive HUD, and industrial vision) as well as specialty lighting, it provides a highly integrated light-source solution.

These two new blue laser products and innovation solutions highlight ams OSRAM’s capability to translate fundamental chip technologies into solutions for a broad range of application scenarios. Light source thus can be tailored more precisely to the needs of the application itself.  Going forward, ams OSRAM will continue to expand its blue laser portfolio to provide more complete solutions that address customers’ diverse performance and cost requirements.

Debut demonstrations of end products bring digital photonics to life
In addition to new blue laser products and innovative solutions, ams OSRAM also showcased several end-application solutions for the first time. The exhibits span imaging, security, specialty lighting, and cutting-edge display.  By turning complex technology into tangible and accessible experiences, the demonstrations allow visitors to gain a more intuitive and immersive understanding of the real-world applications of digital photonics.

  • Smart Eye AIS driver monitoring system: Powered by ams OSRAM OSLON Black infrared illumination, the system combines high‑performance hardware with mature software algorithms to detect drowsiness, phone use, smoking, distraction and alcohol consumption. It also enables audio-visual warnings. Sensitivity and activation thresholds can be configured flexibly to match specific scenarios, providing a precise sensing foundation for human-machine interaction in the intelligent cockpit. The system is engineered to comply with standards such as GSR, E‑NCAP, and C‑NCAP.
  • Police enforcement device: Featuring ams OSRAM’s high‑power SFH 47XX series infrared emitters with efficiencies up to 60%, the device benefits from low thermal resistance and low‑voltage design to extend standby time and reduce system cooling demands. Law enforcement operations in low-light conditions become easier and more effective thanks to the standard industrial 3737 package, which fits most pad layouts and delivers the reliability required for long-term outdoor use.
  • SYB deep ‑ ultraviolet LED sterilizing faucet: The faucet features ams OSRAM’s UVC 265nm LED 3535, the industry’s largest single‑chip 265 nm deep‑UV LED, and achieves a wall‑plug efficiency of 5.6%. Its compact 3535 form factor together with aluminum‑nitride ceramic package simplifies integration into a variety of products. The design achieves a dynamic sterilization rate of >99.99% at a 3 L/min flow rate. With instant startup and no preheating required, this ozone-free UV light source provides reliable protection for safe drinking water in both home and commercial environments.

ams OSRAM showcased a health monitoring ring developed in collaboration with Minami Acoustics Limited, a domestic provider of electro-acoustic products, as well as the highly application-enabling EVIYOS® Shape. EVIYOS® Shape features 25,600 individually controllable pixels (320 × 80, 40 μm pitch) and supports Bluetooth connectivity and real-time content playback. With pixel-level precision control, EVIYOS® Shape provides flexible light-source solutions for scenarios such as smart lighting in cities, immersive experiences in the entertainment industry, and high-accuracy output for machine vision.
