Presence detection with highest precision in 3D depth sensing for robotics, mobile & consumer applications.

ams OSRAM’s new TMF8829 direct time-of-flight (dToF) sensor redefines 3D depth measurement with configurable resolution up to 48×32 pixels, a detection range up to 11 meters, and an 80° field of view—all in a compact 5.7 × 2.9 × 1.5 mm module.

Built on advanced SPAD, TDC, and histogram technology, the TMF8829 performs on-chip data processing, providing precise distance, confidence, and ambient light information with 0.25 mm resolution. Its high smudge tolerance, multi-object detection, and AI-ready raw data streaming make it ideal for robotics, smart glasses and AR/VR headsets

Application areas

  • Depth image for object detection and scene mapping
  • Gesture recognition on over ear headphones
  • Cup size measurement for coffee machines and other smart appliances
  • Industrial robots and logistics like (food) item identification for inventory management
  • Camera autofocus for mobile phones and smart wearables
