The TMD2772 family of devices provides digital ambient light sensing (ALS), a complete proximity detection system, and digital interface logic in a single 8-pin surface mount module. The devices are register-set and pin-compatible with the TMD2771 family of devices and include new and improved ALS and proximity detection features. The ALS enhancements include a reduced gain mode that extends the operating range in sunlight. Proximity detection includes improved signal-to-noise performance and more accurate factory calibration. A proximity offset register allows compensation for optical system crosstalk between the IR LED and the sensor. To prevent false proximity data measurement readings, a proximity saturation indicator bit signals that the internal analog circuitry has reached saturation.

The TSL2671 family of devices provides a complete proximity detection system and digital interface logic in a single 6-pin package. The device includes a digital proximity sensor with integrated LED driver for the required external IR LED. The proximity function offers a wide range of performance, with four programmable LED drive currents and a pulse repetition range of 1 to 32 pulses. The proximity detection circuitry compensates for ambient light, allowing it to operate in environments ranging from bright sunlight to dark rooms. This wide dynamic range also allows operation in short distance detection applications behind dark glass, such as cell phones. An internal state machine provides the ability to put the device into a low power mode for very low average power consumption.

The TMD2635 is an advanced IR proximity sensor module suited for short range proximity measurement detection and offered in the industry's smallest size (1.0mm x 2.0mm) and thin (0.5mm) optical land grid array module that incorporates a 940nm IR VCSEL and is factory calibrated for IR proximity response. The proximity detection feature provides nearby object detection by photodiode detection of reflected IR energy sourced by the integrated VCSEL emitter. Sensitivity, power consumption, and noise can be optimized with adjustable timing and power. Detect/release events can be interrupt driven, and occur when proximity result crosses upper and/or lower threshold settings. The proximity engine features advanced crosstalk noise cancellation through a wide range offset adjustments to compensate for unwanted IR energy reflection at the sensor. Proximity results are further improved by automatic ambient light subtraction.
