ams OSRAM takes international regulations and customer requirements into account in the development and manufacture of its products.
Environmental Product Responsibility
Requirements regarding hazardous substances set forth in international regulations and customer specifications are taken into account in the product development process.
The product environmental program includes the review of new and existing products, as well as requirements for suppliers and subcontractors.
As part of product development, aspects such as product lifespan and the use of materials are taken into account, among other things.
Conflict Minerals Regulation
ams OSRAM considers requirements related to conflict minerals, particularly with regard to conflict-affected and high-risk areas (CAHRAs).
To address these requirements, the company has established supply chain due diligence processes, including reporting through the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) and Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT), as well as internal requirements and controls.
Implementation is carried out through defined due diligence processes and is documented by corresponding policies and guidelines.

The Semiconductors segment focuses on semiconductor-based products and solutions such as high-performance LEDs, lasers, and optical sensors for the automotive, consumer, industrial, and medical technology markets.
The Lamps & Systems segment includes lamps and lighting systems, with a focus on the automotive and industrial end markets.

RoHS - Restriction of Certain Hazardous Substances
ams OSRAM Semiconductor products are compliant to the EU RoHS (Directive 2011/65/EU), and amending Directive (EU) 2015/863, and China RoHS, banning the use of Lead (Pb), Mercury (Hg), Cadmium (Cd), Hexavalent Chromium (Cr 6), Polybrominated Biphenyl (PBB), Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE), and RoHS Phthalates as Bis(2-Ethylhexyl) Phthalate (DEHP), Benzyl Butyl Phthalate (BBP), Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP), and Diisobutyl Phthalate (DIBP).
REACH - Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals
ams OSRAM Semiconductor products are free of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) according Article 33 of the REACH Regulation 2006/1907/EC. Refer to the Candidate List of Substances of ECHA.
California Proposition 65
ams OSRAM semiconductor products may contain one or more chemicals on the California Proposition 65 list. Our semiconductor products are not intended to cause user exposure to any contained substances, nor are they intended to be released or discharged during normal product application and use. Please see the Proposition 65 list.
TSCA - Toxic Substance Control Act
ams OSRAM semiconductor products are compliant to the Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA), which published five final rules to reduce exposure to certain chemicals that are persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic (PBT). Please see final rules for each of the five PBTs.
PFAS - Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances
Several national authorities of the European Union have submitted a proposal to the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) in January 2023 to restrict all Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) under REACH. Certain members of this large group of PFASs chemicals are already subject to EU legislation. Legislation regarding PFAS is also in force or is under preparation in other countries and regions outside the EU. The upcoming legislation regarding PFASs could have a huge impact on the electrical and electronic industry.
POPs - Persistent Organic Pollutants
ams OSRAM semiconductor products are fully compliant with the related requirement of the Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 concerning Persistent Organic Pollutants, including Commission Delegated Regulations amending Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2019/1021. Please see list of substances subject to Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
ODS - Ozone Depleting Substances
ams OSRAM declare that our products do not use ozone depleting substances or its mixture or isomers of such substances mentioned in Annex A, Annex B, Annex C, Annex E or Annex F of the Montreal Protocol above the legal threshold limits. As our semiconductor products are "articles", not chemicals, we see no risk to cause releases that would impact the atmosphere in a normal product application and use.
Sony GP Certification
ams OSRAM continue to cooperate with the Sony environmental quality assurance activities by monitoring our products' raw material and supply chain for the requirements posed by the regulation and the Sony standard.

ILE - OSRAM Index List Environment
The ILE defines ams OSRAMs (Automotive and Specialty Lighting) requirements regarding restriction and declaration of substances. OSRAM Index List Environment (ILE) is to be applied in the design and production of environmentally compatible products of ams OSRAM business unit Automotive and Specialty Lighting (AMSP, legal entity OSRAM GmbH) as well as for procurement of equipment, parts and materials used in products distributed by these ams OSRAM organisations.

WEEE - Disposal and Recycling
We avoid waste wherever possible and prioritize recycling of valuable materials. That is why also our products or products containing our components should to be collected separately and recycled or be disposed of safely in accordance with the WEEE.

Life Cycle Assessments (LCAs)
In order to assess the environmental performance of our products, life cycle analyses of selected (historical) ams OSRAM product families were conducted, representing different technologies. The method for these analyses was an assessment following principally the international standards ISO 14040 and 14044.
