Ambient light sensing

For safety, comfort and economy, interior ambient light sensors in vehicles adjust lighting conditions of displays and interior light sources according to the perception of the human eye – whatever the outside brightness levels and weather conditions.

Automotive interior ambient light sensing

Ambient light sensing inside the car improves the driving experience and enables energy savings by adapting the light ideally to the most varied lighting conditions and adjusting itself perfectly to the human eye. It ensures an optimal display visibility regardless of whether in daylight, at night, or in other lighting conditions.
One of the problems drivers often have in bright sunlight is that they cannot read the navigation screen properly or can only guess the speed shown on the speedometer. With the help of ambient light sensors, however, the backlighting of these displays can be regulated so that they are easy to read in all weather conditions and brightness levels. Furthermore, ambient light sensors can help to automatically dim the rearview mirror when a car drives behind you at night, and switch on the headlights automatically at dusk or when entering a tunnel.
