Sensing solutions for accurate level monitoring

Pressure-based level sensing can be realized by the following non-MEMS technologies which are easy to be integrated into the desired target application: highly sensitive capacitive force sensors with true IQ-sensing or accurate optical force sensors which are able to detect displacements under force/weight of a single micrometer already. This measurement could be realized by optical- and analog front-end components 

For optical level monitoring, a discrete selection of either IR, white or color LEDs in combination with their matching photodetectors are recommended. They could be operated by analog front-end solutions which provide high-performance signal processing across up to 8 separate emitter / detector channels for precise measurements. In case of sufficient compute power within chosen embedded microcontroller, efficient and reliable operation of the illumination sources is guaranteed with discrete LED/VCSEL drivers, offering stable power and control. Alternatively, proximity sensors are being used for level monitoring, ensuring accurate level monitoring in various applications.  

Direct time-of-flight sensors could deliver precise distance measurement and level sensing, enhancing the performance of level monitoring applications in silos up to 5 - 10 meters in height. 

In magnetic float level sensing, magnetic sensors offer accurate detection of magnetic float levels, enhancing the reliability of level monitoring systems. 

For high accuracy level monitoring, where immunity to dust / dirt or water-proof operation is top requirement, ams OSRAM’s impedance-based level sensing, capacitive sensors ensure precise IQ impedance measurement, essential for accurate level monitoring.
