ALIYOS™ Bond Vision: When light, display and interaction merge into a single surface
Vehicle interiors are changing fundamentally. Displays are becoming larger, surfaces smarter, and light is evolving from a design element into an intuitive communication surface. With the new ALIYOS™ Bond Vision demonstrator, ams OSRAM is showing the next development step in its LED-on-foil technology: light, display and user interaction come together to form an almost seamless HMI surface. In cooperation with the optical bonding and display solution competencies of VIA optronics, the demonstrator combines ALIYOS™ foils with hidden-until-lit icons, display extensions, touch compatibility and haptic feedback. The result is a tangible proof point for future smart cockpits, in which light not only makes things visible, but also provides guidance, responds and creates emotional brand identity.
With the introduction of ALIYOS™ LED-on-foil technology, ams OSRAM has already shown how mini-LEDs can be placed on a thin, flexible and transparent substrate. This technology enables lighting designs in which light appears to emerge from nowhere, being connected via almost invisible conductor tracks and can be freely designed in individually controllable segments. The new demonstrator takes this idea consistently into the vehicle interior.
“With ALIYOS™ Bond Vision, we show how light, displays and interaction can come together in the vehicle interior to create a new user experience,” says Franziska Rausch, Product Manager at ams OSRAM. “For vehicle manufacturers, this creates new degrees of freedom: less installation space, more design freedom and surfaces that communicate information intuitively and emotionally.”
The vehicle interior is becoming one of the most important areas of differentiation in the automotive industry. While software-defined vehicles make new functions possible in the first place, the interface between people and the vehicle determines whether these functions are experienced as intuitive, safe and premium. This is exactly where the new ALIYOS™ Bond Vision demonstrator from ams OSRAM and VIA optronics comes in.
In cooperation with VIA optronics, ALIYOS™ Bond Vision combines LED-on-foil technology with optical bonding, display integration and interactive HMI functions. The demonstrator shows ALIYOS™ technology in various installation scenarios, including hidden-until-lit icons, lighting behind vegan cover material, transparent windscreen applications and display extensions. At the same time, it demonstrates the integration of touch recognition and a haptic actuator for direct user feedback.
This turns light into more than a visual effect. It becomes part of an intelligent surface. Icons can remain invisible until they are needed. Display areas can be visually extended into adjacent surfaces. Light can provide guidance, create moods, indicate states or act as a communication signal. For vehicle manufacturers, this opens up new possibilities for embedding digital functions more naturally into the interior while also creating a distinctive brand identity.
A key feature of the demonstrator is the integration of ALIYOSTM foils via optical bonding by VIA optronics. The ALIYOSTM foils are less than 1 mm thick to enable ultra-thin HMI surfaces with haptic feedback as well as seamless transitions between display and light as central benefits. This is particularly relevant because modern interiors are increasingly focused on reduced, premium and digital surfaces.
Display quality also remains a focus of ams OSRAM. It is designed for efficient local dimming and targets more than 1,000 cd/m² total luminance on the LCD and LCD homogeneity of more than 92 per cent. As a result, ALIYOS™ Bond Vision addresses not only design freedom, but also requirements for high-quality visual presentation in the vehicle.
The development fits into a broader market trend. Light in vehicles is increasingly becoming an intelligent interface, digital projection, ambient lighting in combination with intelligent cockpits and AI agents, as well as new communication functions, are shaping the next phase of vehicle development.
This is precisely where ams OSRAM sets a differentiating accent: ALIYOS™ Bond Vision connects not only light with surface, but light with displays, interaction and system integration. The demonstrator makes visible how future vehicle interiors will consist less of separate controls and more of intelligent surfaces that only become visible when they are needed.
ALIYOS™ is therefore another proof point for the technological direction of ams OSRAM: photonics is becoming digital, interactive and closer to people. The technology shows how, in future, light will not only illuminate, but also communicate, respond and shape the vehicle experience.
