SOXAI chooses technology from ams OSRAM to light up and power its state-of-the-art smart rings “made in Japan”
SOXAI, Japan's first venture company to develop and manufacture smart rings, has joined forces with ams OSRAM, a global leader in intelligent sensors and emitters, to produce the new generation of the SOXAI Smart Ring: a breakthrough health management innovation.
In the exciting new world of wearable technology, SOXAI, a dynamic start-up established in 2021, was the first Japanese venture company to produce smart rings — and in 2022, it even developed the world's smallest smart ring! The latest generation of this clever invention will come with a wide range of sensor solutions from ams OSRAM.
The new SOXAI Smart Ring is enriched by sophisticated components from ams OSRAM's complete PPG sensor offering: the light-emitting diode FIREFLY® E1608 CT DELSS1.12, the multi-chip LED SFH 7015 as well as the chip LED photodiode SFH 2703 — and the micro SIDELED® 2808 LW Y1SG and the micro SIDELED® LB Y1SG are essential components of the product's battery charger. The LEDs and sensors were chosen for their minuscule size and their ability to produce 2-in-1 infrared and visible light.
Other key criteria included the thermal management of the battery and keeping the device's power consumption as low as possible, even more so because SOXAI Smart Rings are designed to be worn many hours each day. Ultimately, sensors from ams OSRAM were selected to produce an updated, upgraded version of the SOXAI Smart Ring that is now being released. Only 7.6mm wide and 2.5mm thick with a weight of just around 3 grams: this is how the slender finger jewelry has retained its title as the world’s smallest smart ring! It is powered by a battery that can last up to eight days from a 60- to 120-minute charge.
The SOXAI Smart Ring also boasts an AI-embedded 3D accelerometer sensor that automatically detects activity through motion, as well as a skin temperature sensor that measures both sleep- and health-related events and is completely waterproof and dustproof. SOXAI currently sells 20,000 to 50,000 smart rings a year and aims to increase this number to 100,000 to 200,000 going forward.
