ams OSRAM presents new generation of photodiodes SFH 2704A and the Mira016 image sensor at Photonics West

San Francisco, USA and Premstätten, Austria (30 January 2024) - ams OSRAM is expanding its vital signs monitoring portfolio with the Chip LED, SFH 2704A photodiode. With the same footprint of 2.0 mm x 1.8 mm as its predecessor SFH 2704, the SFH 2704A scores with higher performance: The SFH 2704A improves the relative sensitivity at 530 nm green by about 27 percent and the relative sensitivity at 660 nm red by about eight percent. With the chip LED photodiode, customers can optimize their energy budget and extend battery life by reducing the LED driver current.

The company is also presenting the latest and smallest member of the Mira family: the Mira016 impresses with a resolution of 400 x 400 pixels for a backside illuminated (BSI), double-stack sensor measuring in at only 1.8 mm x 1.8 mm sized package. With a power of 20 mW at full resolution and 90 fps, as well as a high quantum efficiency in the near infrared, the sensor offers high performance with low power consumption. The Mira family’s 2.79 um pixel provides high sensitivity which is important for low-light conditions and reducing illumination needs of the system. This makes the Mira016 particularly suitable for augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) camera-based eye tracking and world-facing gesture tracking, as well as other applications in 2D and 3D sensing.

About SFH chip LED photodiodes
The Chip LED, SFH 2704 photodiode product family differs from other products in the industry due to its square form factor, which allows even more flexible placement of the photodiodes next to the LEDs in the system. The product also impresses with its optimized energy consumption, which reduces the LED driver current to ensure a longer battery life. The photodiodes can be used in a variety of applications, including smartwatches for vital data monitoring or in the medical sector for digital diagnostic devices.

About Mira CMOS image sensors
The CMOS image sensors of the Mira product family impress with high light sensitivity in the visible and NIR spectrum and, thanks to their low power consumption, require less illumination to extend battery life. The product was developed to enable energy savings with high quantum efficiency for 2D/3D applications in smart glasses, VR headsets and industrial image processing.
