ams OSRAM Debuts at the 2026 Shanghai International Auto Lamp Exhibition: Empowering Local Intelligent Mobility with Automotive-Grade Quality
Shanghai, China, March 25, 2026 — ams OSRAM (SIX: AMS), a global leader in innovative light and sensor solutions today showcased its latest technologies and products at the 21st Auto Lamp Industry Development Technology Forum and Shanghai International Auto Lamp Exhibition (ALE). Themed "Light for the Future: A New Ecosystem of Automotive Lighting with Intelligence, Green Technology, and Safety", this year’s ALE concentrates on the evolution of lamp technologies amid the surge of intelligentization. At booth T203, ams OSRAM highlights its advanced technologies and innovative products for automotive signal, interior and exterior lighting, and intelligent headlights. This focused portfolio demonstrates the company's long-term commitment to automotive-grade quality standards and its deep integration with the local Chinese market.
As automotive lighting transforms from a functional component into a smart interaction medium, manufacturers face stricter requirements for reliability, consistency, and long-term stability. This evolution simultaneously drives industry standards and specifications to new heights. Within this landscape, ams OSRAM leverages its deep expertise in optics and sensing technologies to deliver products that exceed industry standards. The company's rigorous quality control combined with deep localization practices helps Chinese automakers create intelligent lighting solutions that balance safety with exceptional user experience.
Strict Chip Standards for enhanced Road Safety
ams OSRAM consistently prioritizes product quality and road safety. Through research, development and manufacturing, the company enforces strict quality control standards that generally surpass the common industry benchmark of AEC-Q102 automotive qualification. This commitment is clearly reflected in its product portfolio.
In the era of autonomous driving, the “communication” between vehicles and other road users has emerged as a critical safety issue. The Autonomous Driving Status (ADS) Indicator, presented on the ams OSRAM booth at the 2026 ALE, is designed precisely for this use case. Built on the compact SYNIOS™ P 2222 package, the product saves considerable space while simultaneously improving light-output stability. These features work together to provide a clear vehicle-to-pedestrian signal that indicates autonomous driving status. The reliability-focused design of the ADS Indicator makes it a vital component for traffic safety.
SYNIOS™ P 2222 serves as the technical foundation for the ADS indicator. ams OSRAM introduced this platform as a new standard for mid- to low-power automotive signal components. The platform inherits the SYNIOS family legacy: high reliability, low thermal resistance, and excellent luminance. The device comes in a QFN package with a small footprint and low profile. Compared with traditional PLCC components, it requires substantially less mounting area. This space efficiency enables higher component density without any performance compromise. The platform offers two variants—mid-power and low-power—and integrates seamlessly with the higher-power SYNIOS™ P 2720. Products across different power classes share the same PCB layout without package-size changes, meeting varying luminance requirements. The design provides customers with stable, reliable signaling solutions that scale flexibly from low to mid power.
ams OSRAM pursues excellence beyond stringent product standards by actively participating in developing global automotive regulations and standards. The Open System Protocol (OSP) for automotive applications exemplifies this commitment. The protocol is advancing toward international standardization, with ISO launching formal standardization work. ams OSRAM continues to leverage its technical leadership to drive the refinement and implementation of these standards globally.
“Automotive-grade reliability is the foundation of automotive lighting,” said William Jin, Senior Marketing Director, Mobility APAC, ams OSRAM. “ams OSRAM consistently enforces internal controls that exceed industry norms to ensure every LED performs stably under demanding conditions—from product design through to manufacturing. ”
The OSIRE E3731i Smart RGB product on-display is a mature implementation compliant with the OSP protocol. Designed for high-dynamic RGB interior-lighting scenarios, the product integrates R/G/B LEDs and an ams OSRAM IC that houses drivers for the three-color channels as well as optical measurement data. An external microcontroller can address and control each LED over OSP in a daisy-chain topology; the open protocol allows the microcontroller to read back data and run arbitrary color algorithms, and it can also retrieve temperature values to optimize color performance. The product adheres to known patent and intellectual property compliance requirements in all automotive-producing countries and holds AEC-Q102-003 certification.
Currently applied in Zeekr model ambient lighting, the OSIRE E3731i Smart RGB will soon expand to flagship new models from leading domestic automotive manufacturers.
Innovation Deeply Rooted in China
ams OSRAM has a profound presence in the Chinese market. The company focuses on the essential needs of local New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturers, forming collaborations across multiple product areas for both interior and exterior applications. ams OSRAM is moving beyond the traditional "in China, for China" strategy toward a collaborative model of “creating with China." By deeply aligning with the innovative demands of local NEV makers, the company earns customer trust through high-quality products and cutting-edge technologies.
In exterior lighting, EVIYOS™ HD 25 features an integrated pixelated µ-LED chip matrix with 25,600 individually controllable emitters, each offering micron-scale precision. This innovation earned EVIYOS™ HD 25 the German Future Prize in 2024, highlighting ams OSRAM's leadership in µ-LED pixelated lighting. EVIYOS™ HD 25 is already implemented two premium models from NIO—the ET9 and ES8. This technology enables their intelligent HD projection headlamps to illuminate objects 500 meters ahead, control light zones with 25-centimeter precision at distances beyond 100 meters and support active safety functions such as projection light carpets and road risk highlighter alerts. These capabilities deliver clearer, safer visibility for night driving.
In the field of general lighting, ams OSRAM’s high-power LEDs are widely used in low- and high-beam modules for both conventional and new energy vehicles. Paired with the OSLON® Compact PL series, they support headlight performance with high luminous efficacy and reliability.
In in-cabin interaction, Leapmotor’s new C11 model incorporates ams OSRAM’s AR HUD technology, whose high brightness and wide color gamut enhance the presentation of driving information and the overall interactive experience.
“China’s NEV market is a powerhouse of innovation, and ams OSRAM is committed to deep co-creation with local automakers,” said William Jin. “From the EVIYOS™ HD 25 in NIO’s ET9 to the OSIRE E3731i in Zeekr models, our technologies are helping Chinese brands deliver differentiated intelligent lighting experiences. Going forward, we will continue to support Chinese customers in leading global automotive intelligence through localized R&D and services.”
Beyond its commercially deployed local collaborations, ams OSRAM showcased forward-looking innovations at its booth, including the ALIYOS™ LED-on-foil technology. This solution uses a transparent, flexible LED-foil structure under 1 mm thick that supports 2.5D bending and can be mounted on a variety of substrate surfaces. Multiple LED-foil layers may be stacked to achieve 3D styling and dynamic visual effects. With its transparent nature, ALIYOS™ can create a hidden design when the light source is off and display clear illuminated areas when activated. The lighting effects and design freedom it offers on transparent surfaces can meet the demands for differentiated and personalized lighting designs in next-generation vehicles.
ams OSRAM continues to deliver innovative solutions for automotive lighting and sensing applications through automotive-grade quality and deep localization practices. The company will leverage global technological strengths and localized services to evolve with China's new-energy vehicle industry. By driving headlamp technology toward greater intelligence and personalization, ams OSRAM aims to contribute to a safer, more interactive future of mobility.
