SMARTLED™ Pure 0201: a new level of harmonious light in the smallest spaces
Premstaetten, Austria, and Munich, Germany (March 17, 2026) — With its SMARTLED™ Pure 0201, ams OSRAM introduces a new generation of ultra-compact LEDs that bring uniform, elegant light into today’s thinnest device designs. Its batwing-shaped radiation pattern and wide viewing angle of up to 165° enable highly uniform light distribution, giving product engineers greater freedom to create clean, continuous indicator symbols and shapes in minimal space.
Designed for the devices shaping our daily lives
As device profiles become slimmer and available optical space shrinks, indicator LEDs must deliver clear, uniform illumination without optical distortions. On a smart device, for example, a tiny statue icon can appear perfectly uniform with no hotspots, no uneven edges, even when the angles of view are shallow. In that moment, the story of the SMARTLED™ Pure 0201 becomes visible: high-quality light in spaces where every tenth of a millimeter matters. Users can expect seamless illumination that supports a clean device aesthetic. The new product of ams OSRAM meets this need with a compact format and a light signature engineered for clarity and uniformity in the tightest environments.
SMARTLED™ Pure 0201 supports design trends across wearables, smartphones, accessory electronics, smart doorbells, household appliances, and industrial equipment with constrained lightguide structures. By enabling reduced diffuser distance, consistent optical performance, and flexible integration, the LED helps manufacturers build thinner, cleaner product designs without compromising visual clarity.
A new chapter in compact, uniform indication
SMARTLED Pure is a completely new product class for ams OSRAM. The device 0201 is built for tight integration, with a footprint of 0.6 Ă— 0.3 mm that supports sleek product designs across industries.
One of its most distinctive features is a batwing-shaped radiation pattern. This optical design allows engineers to place diffusers closer to the LED without creating hotspots — enabling thinner device profiles and more flexibility in mechanical layout.
Customers can cluster multiple units to create miniLED-like effects, supporting both classic and advanced visual communication.
The LED comes in a full set of single‑color variants — white, true green, red and blue — each engineered for balanced output and a wide viewing angle of up to 165°, providing strong visibility even at shallow angles.
Small component, strong statement
With the launch of the SMARTLED™ Pure 0201 ams OSRAM takes an important step in expanding its reach into non-automotive, fast‑growing consumer and industrial segments. It demonstrates how much innovation can fit into a package smaller than a grain of rice: refined optics, high visual quality and a design that supports the next generation of compact electronics.
