Full-Service-Foundry: how to access our multi-project wafer service for IC prototypes

We are excited to re-introduce the ams OSRAM Full-Service-Foundry services to our existing customers and potential new customers. As of today, we invite fabless semiconductor companies to use our integrated circuit service for fabrication of IC prototypes for shared wafer fabrication. Also known as multi-project wafer (MPW) or shuttle run, this service will enable you to benefit from cost and other advantages of shared wafer fabrication. The 2024 schedule is now available, and companies can apply using the simple process detailed here.

Multi-project wafers allow multiple designs from different customers to be combined on a single wafer. This offers significant price advantages for our foundry customers, as the costs for wafers and masks are shared by the participants of the respective MPW run. Our ams OSRAM MPW service offers the full range of 180nm and 0.35μm specialty processes, including the recently introduced 180nm CMOS technology (“C18”)

This service is enabled by collaborations with our worldwide partner organizations, which includes CIME-P (formerly CMP) and Fraunhofer IIS via EUROPRACTICE. Customers located in the Asia Pacific and China region may also participate through our local MPW program partner, MEDs Technologies.

180nm CMOS technology – for sensor/sensor interface devices for many applications

The C18 process supports a wide range of 1.8V and 3.3V NMOS and PMOS devices (substrate based, floating, low leakage and high threshold voltage options) and fully characterized passives including various capacitors. Area-optimized high-density and low-power digital libraries with gate densities up to 125kGates/mm² plus updated digital and analog I/O libraries with up to six metal layers. ESD protection cells with up to 8kV HBM level complete the offering. The C18 process is ideally suited for sensor and sensor interface devices in a wide range of applications. All 2024 MPW runs will be manufactured in our state-of-the-art 200mm fabrication facility in Austria, ensuring extremely low defect densities and high yields.

0.35μm CMOS / Embedded Flash – for high-voltage designs for automotive and industry

In addition to the C18 MPW runs, ams OSRAM will also offer MPW runs on our 0.35μm specialty processes in 2024. The ams-OSRAM 0.35μm High-Voltage CMOS process family, optimized for High-Voltage designs in automotive and industrial applications, supports 20V, 50V and 120V devices as well as truly voltage scalable transistors. The advanced High-Voltage CMOS process with embedded EEPROM functionality is fully compatible with the base CMOS process and completes our MPW service portfolio.

How to enable rapid design starts for your complex high-performance mixed-signal ICs

To take advantage of the MPW service, foundry customers must submit their completed GDSII-data on the specified dates (see table). They will receive untested packaged samples or dies within a short lead-time of typically 10 weeks for CMOS and 12 weeks for High-Voltage CMOS and Embedded Flash processes.
All process technologies are supported by the well-known hitkit design environment, and the ams OSRAM industry benchmark process design kit based on the Virtuoso® Custom IC Technology from Cadence. The hitkit comes complete with fully silicon-qualified standard cells, peripheral cells and general-purpose analog cells such as comparators, operational amplifiers, low power A/D and D/A converters. Custom analog devices, physical verification rule sets for PVS/Pegasus and Calibre, as well as accurately characterized circuit simulation models for Spectre Simulation Platform, enable rapid design starts of complex high-performance mixed-signal ICs. In addition to standard prototyping services, ams OSRAM also offers advanced analog IP blocks, a memory (RAM/ROM) generation service and packaging services in ceramic or plastic.
